Data Management
The biodiversity data that TWIC holds and uses is at the heart of our business. The majority of the data does not belong to TWIC, but we hold and manage it on behalf of others and make it widely available to various users, in a variety of formats, or as part of our data services. Handling data carefully is critical - it is our job to treat data carefully, to ensure that we know whose data we hold and to ensure that the data are verified and checked before we make them available to our users. To explain how we do this we have a suite of polices that describe our principles and approaches to data management - these cover subjects such as data ownership, controlling access to data, computerising data, physical security of data, verification of data and priorities for data processing. The following policy sheets are available from the office: - Policy on data verification
- Policy on controlling access
- Policy on documenting data
- Policy on priorities for data
- Policy on physical security of data
- Policy on data ownership
If you would like a copy of any of the above sheets, or more information on how we manage any data please contact The Wildlife Information Centre office at info@wildlifeinformation.co.uk.
