TWIC is the Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC) for south‑east and part of central Scotland. We collect, collate and share information on wildlife across our region.
As a focal point for biological recording, TWIC works to increase knowledge of terrestrial, freshwater and marine wildlife. We collate data from a wide range of sources and manage information on species, habitats and designated sites. Currently, our database holds over 4.5 million species records.
People use data from TWIC to support environmental decision‑making, education, site management, conservation and research. In addition, TWIC supports Local Biodiversity Action Plan partnerships and acts as a regional node of the National Biodiversity Network.
TWIC’s Vision:
A world where biodiversity is thriving, people are inspired to record wildlife and high-quality data underpin all environmental decision making.
Through our training and events programme, TWIC supports recorders and wildlife observers as they develop knowledge and skills. We also encourage interest in recording by giving talks and attending public events and Bioblitz activities.
TWIC is a not‑for‑profit company and a Scottish Charity. You can find governance information on the Companies House and Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator websites. The governing Articles of TWIC are available on request. For more information on how TWIC is funded visit this page.
