GIS and IT Officer
Salary: £30,000 per annum | Permanent & Full Time (35 hrs/week) | Hybrid working with offices based at Vineyard Business Centre, near Pathhead, Midlothian

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person with knowledge of IT systems and GIS in the environment sector to join The Wildlife Information Centre’s small and dedicated team. You will be responsible for maintaining TWIC’s IT systems and databases. In acquiring, analysing and supplying biodiversity data, you will be liaising with a wide range of public and private organisations across south-east and central Scotland.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage TWIC’s biological data holdings and mapping data using ArcGIS Pro, Recorder 6 and Microsoft Access databases
- Service data requests from clients and supply GIS and data products to Service Level Agreement holders
- Maintain the office IT system and networks, including backup procedures, data security, licensing and UK GDPR compliance
- Provide technical support and training to staff and volunteers, liaising with TWIC’s external IT consultant as necessary
- Manage the TWIC website and contribute to TWIC’s social media platforms
- Contribute to data flow between local, regional and national recording networks
Biological Records Ecologist
Salary: £13,450 per annum (£26,900 pro-rata) | Part-time (17.5 hours), fixed term contract to 31 March 2027, with view to extend/make permanent (funding permitting) | Hybrid working with offices based at the Vineyard Business Centre, near Pathhead, Midlothian

We have an opening for an Ecologist with excellent data handling skills and a good eye for detail to join The Wildlife Information Centre’s small and dedicated team.
You will support the efficient and accurate processing of biological records in TWIC’s database to ensure that TWIC’s data holdings are kept current and comprehensive. The post-holder will also coordinate the workshops programme, manage mailings to recorders and contribute to the wider work of TWIC by supporting Local Biodiversity Sites work. Knowledge of natural history in Scotland/UK and previous experience of working with large datasets or GIS would be a distinct advantage.
