Current Opportunities
We are currently seeking volunteers to fill three roles:
Data Processing Volunteer
Due to increasing volumes of records being submitted to TWIC, we have office volunteer opportunities available to support the processing of biological records. Volunteers will be responsible for processing datasets from a wide variety of sources, as well as assisting with data archiving and data cleaning tasks.
If you enjoy working with spreadsheets, have an eye for detail and are interested in gaining office experience working with a conservation charity, we would love to hear from you!
Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 1 day per week and are based at the TWIC office, which is situated in the rural setting of Vineyard Business Centre, near Pathhead. For more information, download the role description and person specification here.
Wildlife Survey Organiser
A volunteer is required to support the promotion of TWIC’s six public wildlife surveys and assist with the processing of incoming records.
This post would suit an organised individual who enjoys working with biological data, engaging with people through social media and who wishes to gain further experience in this field with an environmental charity.
Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 1 day per week for a minimum of 3-4 months and will be based at the TWIC office, which is situated in the rural setting of Vineyard Business Centre, near Pathhead. For more information, download the role description and person specification here.
Public Events Volunteer
We are looking for local volunteers with some prior knowledge or experience of wildlife recording to support staff on our charity stall at public events (e.g. agricultural shows, community fairs and fetes and Bioblitz events).
Volunteers will help set up and take down the stall, engage with the public and provide information on wildlife recording in SE/central Scotland. If you have an interest in wildlife recording and enjoy engaging with people from different ages and backgrounds, we would love to hear from you!
We are ideally looking for volunteers to support several events a year across SE/central Scotland; although, the volunteer will have flexibility in how many and which events/locations they attend.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in public engagement with a well-respected conservation charity. For more information, download the role description and person specification here.
Benefits
Volunteering can significantly enhance your CV and is often essential for gaining employment in the Ecology sector. Volunteers will receive appropriate training for their role, including in data protection and health and safety, as well as free attendance at the TWIC annual conference. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered, and TWIC will provide a plentiful supply tea/coffee to keep you refreshed during your volunteer days!
